RE: NC - Route 21 between Speedwell and Elk Creek

There is a mountain between Elk Creek and Speedwell. It's not huge, but it will slow you down a bit. Actually, no matter which way you go through the area, you have to cross a run of mountains that runs east-west. When we go to West Jefferson, we take the exit to Hwy 16 in Marion, VA all the way to the Jeffersons. The only tricky spot is where you have to take a right turn in Mouth of Wilson in order to stay on Hwy 16. You're going to run through mountains either way. None of which are too big. The only way I know of to absolutely miss most of the mountains is to go on down to I-77, take the Galax exit, and go in from that direction. Definitely NOT worth the extra time that would take. Also, Hwy 16 isn't a very busy highway in general. Usually just locals and the occasional logging truck. They may slow you up more than the mountains.

RE: Is this true in your area?

I don't recall having thunder in February this year, but I did have a trace amount of snow on the deck this morning. We've also had a couple flurries this afternoon. It was in the mid 70's a few days ago. Mother Nature is a big tease.

I was lucky enough to be watching Carson the night Jimmy Stewart recited that poem. Thanks for bringing back a great memory for me. I owe you one.

RE: Quotes about Money

So you think that money is the root of all evil. Have you ever asked what is the root of all money? -Ayn Rand

RE: ? about television show

And if you like Hugh Laurie, you may not be aware of his comedy roots. He was hilarious in the BBC's Blackadder series with Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean to most Americans). Before that he starred with Stephen Fry in "A Bit of Fry and Laurie". (They also starred together in the BBC's "Jeeves and Wooster" series. Loved him on Blackadder! He also appears with John Malkovich in the Annie Lennox video Walking on Broken Glass. Great song, and cute video.

RE: How to know you are living in a small town.....

The first year we lived in our current town, we went to the Christmas parade. We noticed there were very few people watching the parade. Apparently, everyone else in the town was in the parade. /no stoplights. //a set of RR tracks though!

RE: A nation of indoorsmen

Can someone direct me to the place all these kids are staying indoors? I have a 13 year old, and there is a neighborhood full of kids around here. They are always outside playing a ball game, on the trampoline, skateboarding or biking. They all have video games, but tend to play them when the weather outside is crappy. Maybe it's a regional thing, but I just don't see it around here.

None of my boxes in the office pool thingie even came close to the scores. :( I already had the money spent!!! :E The House Boss won $250 in the office pool. She had a matching score at the end of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I'm going to try to help her spend it.

RE: Superbowl Commercials

I went to godaddy.com to see the Danica Patrick commercial. A bit risque, but clever. Probably a little too risque for many on here. Liked the Shaq ad, liked the Bud Light Cavemen ad.
